From a publisher’s perspective, opening headless access can potentially reduce visibility into the customer experience. Yet it also presents an opportunity to innovate…
Gartner summarizes one of the major evolutions that intranets have undergone over the past year.
In the Magic Quadrant it dedicates to this market, the American firm points to additional AI-driven transformation axes. AI has taken a larger share than in 2025 in its evaluation of providers.
On the “execution” aspect, which reflects the ability to respond to demand (customer experience, pricing, quality of products/services…), the situation is as follows:
| Rank | Vendor | Yearly Change |
| 1 | LumApps | + 2 |
| 2 | Workvivo by Zoom | + 2 |
| 3 | Simpplr | – 1 |
| 4 | Unily | – 3 |
| 5 | Staffbase | + 3 |
| 6 | Appspace | + 5 |
| 7 | Haiilo | + 6 |
| 8 | Omnia | – 3 |
| 9 | Firstup | = |
| 10 | Interact Software | = |
| 11 | Poppulo | new entrant |
| 12 | Blink | – 5 |
| 13 | MangoApps | – 1 |
| 14 | Powell | + 1 |
| 15 | Axero | + 1 |
| 16 | Dinova (Interacta) | new entrant |
On the “vision” aspect, which reflects strategies (marketing and commercial, innovation, geographic expansion…) :
| Rank | Vendor | Yearly Change |
| 1 | LumApps | = |
| 2 | Unily | + 1 |
| 3 | Simpplr | – 1 |
| 4 | Workvivo by Zoom | – 3 |
| 5 | MangoApps | + 1 |
| 6 | Appspace | + 7 |
| 7 | Staffbase | + 2 |
| 8 | Interact | – 3 |
| 9 | Omnia | + 2 |
| 10 | Powell | = |
| 11 | Blink | + 5 |
| 12 | Firstup | – 4 |
| 13 | Axero | + 2 |
| 14 | Haiilo | – 2 |
| 15 | Poppulo | new entrant |
| 16 | Dinova (Interacta) | new entrant |
Une uneven use of AI to personalize the UX
Several vendors display a limited use of AI for personalizing the user experience. Appspace is among them. The same goes for Haiilo, not as advanced as its competitors in building profiles and “communication journeys.” Powell is also lagging in this area. For its part, AI remains generally limited to basic content management/retrieval tasks and ticket processing, according to Gartner.
Firstup, on the contrary, earns a good mark for its use of AI in personalizing communication. The same goes for Blink, which also stands out in task personalization.
Des fournisseurs à divers stades de maturité, notamment sur l’orchestration
Some vendors lack “maturity” in AI. For example Axero on the orchestration component—as well as on workflow automation. Blink is in the same situation, in addition to having room to grow in its agent capabilities, according to Gartner. At Unily, the generative Indi agent, intended for content creation, remains in a maturation phase, particularly on the orchestration aspect.
Haiilo is, on the contrary, praised for its rapid pace of innovation. In particular for AI applied to content creation and knowledge management. Simpplr is recognized for its advances in AI for communication and governance. Appspace, for the possibility it offers to use Claude as a content creation interface and for code generation based on its design framework. A capability that “illustrates the future of intranets,” to borrow Gartner’s words.
Des écarts fonctionnels, entre autres sur l’automatisation des tâches
Among vendors flagged for missing AI features, there is Dinova — which receives the same critique about content management and the extensibility of its solution. Or Firstup, which focuses AI research and orchestration on communication and knowledge rather than on automating daily work. A similar finding with Interact, more oriented toward knowledge management than task execution within its assistant. At Powell, AI management requires more effort than elsewhere, with limited support to create agents and maintain them. At LumApps, this support does not prevent the solution from being complex to configure.
Gartner, by contrast, praises LumApps for the cross-cutting nature of its AI blocks, both functionally (information discovery, personalization of the experience, task execution) and in terms of the variety of user profiles covered. It also notes, among other things, productivity improvements via micro-apps and MCP/API integrations at Poppulo. It moreover highlights attention to AI governance issues at Unily as well as at Axero.
Qui parviendra à imaginer le futur des intranets ?
Gartner also questions the ability of some players to anticipate the future. Among them Appspace, which, in Gartner’s view, already struggles to keep up with evolving customer expectations. In this context, will it be able to respond to a scenario where AI engineers become major prescribers of intranets? A similar reflection applies to Axero, whose roadmap is “highly influenced by customer needs”: will it anticipate broader trends, particularly in AI orchestration? Staffbase concerns the American firm about its ability to front-load AI investments with platform expansion, meeting customer demands, and evolving its business model.
