Polytechnique Launches Endowed AI Chair

The École Polytechnique announces the creation of a philanthropy chair dedicated to artificial intelligence, digital sovereignty, and industrial performance.

Set up for a five-year term with Campus AI and supported by the X Foundation, this partnership pursues three primary aims: to support cutting-edge research, promote training and inclusion, and strengthen ties between academia and industry players.

This partnership aims to actively contribute to shaping a leading scientific and technological ecosystem in France.

Campus AI, engaged in developing an AI-focused campus in the Île-de-France region, roots this initiative in a broader dynamic of international cooperation and the strengthening of European capabilities in strategic technologies.

The Chair is intended to bring together the academic expertise of École Polytechnique with the industrial challenges linked to the development and deployment of AI solutions at scale. It will be led by Dominique Rossin, the institution’s Director of Teaching and Research.

A clearly defined scientific and societal ambition

The work carried out under the Chair will revolve around several major axes: advancing research on the foundations and applications of AI, producing and disseminating scientific knowledge for academic, industrial, and public audiences, promoting internationalization of research and teaching activities, and fostering interactions between researchers, students, and economic actors.

Concrete terms, the Chair will fund several Polytechnique PhD theses in key areas such as AI applied to health, robotics, or the theoretical foundations of artificial intelligence.

Beyond research, the Chair commits to training and inclusion. Actions will be implemented for middle school and high school students, in partnership with the École Polytechnique’s Equality of Opportunity Hub, to promote access to science and to raise awareness among young people about AI challenges, regardless of their social background.
