Salesforce to Acquire Informatica for $8 Billion

It’s confirmed: Salesforce announced on Tuesday the acquisition of Informatica for a figure around $8 billion. This major deal marks Salesforce’s return to large-scale mergers and acquisitions after several years of abstinence.

It is the biggest Salesforce buyout since the acquisition of Slack Technologies for around $28 billion in 2021. It follows failed talks last year, with both companies unable to agree on the terms of the deal.

The terms of the agreement set Salesforce to pay $25 per Informatica share, representing a premium of about 30% over Informatica’s closing price on May 22, the day before renewed talks were announced. The deal is expected to close early in Salesforce’s next fiscal year.

“Together, Salesforce and Informatica will create the most complete platform for data and the most suitable for industry agents,” said Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce. “By combining the power of Data Cloud, MuleSoft and Tableau with Informatica’s advanced and leading data-management capabilities, we will empower autonomous agents to deliver smarter, safer, and more scalable results for every business, and will significantly strengthen our position in the enterprise data market, which exceeds $150 billion.”

This acquisition is expected to enable Salesforce to strengthen its CRM offering by integrating advanced MDM and ETL capabilities at the heart of Informatica’s business, as well as the development of its AI agent portfolio.
ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) involves extracting data from various sources, transforming it to fit operational needs, and then loading it into a target system. MDM (Master Data Management) creates a single “truth source” for an organization’s critical data (customers, products, suppliers, etc.). Informatica is a leader in these two domains.

“Salesforce plans to rapidly integrate Informatica’s technology stack, including data integration, data quality, governance and unified metadata for Agentforce, as well as a single data-pipeline with MDM on Data Cloud, seamlessly integrating this ‘comprehension system’ into the Salesforce ecosystem,” stated the CRM leader.
