NATO Signs Multi-Million-Dollar Deal with Google Cloud

Google Cloud has just signed a multi-million-dollar contract with NATO’s Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) to provide “sovereign and highly secure cloud capabilities,” according to Alphabet’s subsidiary. The integration of this technology is expected to take place in the coming months.

The deal is built on Google Distributed Cloud air-gapped, a solution within Google’s Sovereign Cloud lineup. A choice that guarantees NATO a high level of security, autonomy, and resilience, regardless of the volume or complexity of the data being processed, according to the hyperscaler.

Tara Brady, President of Google Cloud EMEA, states that Google Cloud “is committed to supporting the core mission of NATO,” notably in building a robust digital infrastructure and adopting the most advanced technological innovations.

Antonio Calderon, NCIA’s Chief Technology Officer, emphasizes that the agency aims to harness next-generation technologies, including AI, to strengthen operational capabilities and safeguard the Alliance’s digital environment.

The Google Distributed Cloud air-gapped offering to NATO is designed for environments that require strict residence and data-security controls. Fully isolated, the platform ensures that NCIA’s sensitive data remains under direct control on NATO’s sovereign territory. It will also provide advanced analytical capabilities to enhance the operational efficiency of the Alliance, its allies, and its partners.
