Opera Launches Neon, a Web Browser Powered by Agentic AI

And a new AI-powered browser is here! Opera officially unveils Neon, a browser that lets you run tasks and code directly within web pages.

It accompanies a movement that has been gaining momentum since the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022: turning the browser from a mere search tool into a genuine productivity hub that can act on behalf of users.

Perplexity AI launched its Comet browser in July, while The Browser Company, acquired by Atlassian, unveiled Dia. Meanwhile, OpenAI is preparing a Chromium-based browser that could integrate its Agent “Operator,” enabling navigation and transactions without leaving a native chat interface.

Opera notes that Neon can fill out forms, compare data across different sites, or draft code directly in the browser. The “Neon Do” feature lets the software browse pages on the user’s behalf without transmitting information to external cloud services.

The browser also offers “Tasks,” which creates autonomous workspaces allowing the AI to analyze multiple sources, and “Cards,” reusable prompt templates that automate repetitive workflows. Opera emphasizes that all actions run locally, giving users control over when the AI model is activated or paused.

Opera Neon is offered as a premium subscription product aimed at demanding users. Early access has been opened to a select group of users, with additional invitations planned in the coming weeks.
