Thales and Google Cloud today announce the creation of a new sovereign cloud entity in Germany. The structure will be fully owned and controlled by Thales in Germany. It will be staffed and led by German personnel, and will operate independently from Google Cloud in both legal and operational terms.
The infrastructure will be hosted in Germany, governed by German law, and will rely on Google Cloud technology, but within an isolated environment. It targets German public sector bodies and industries subject to strict regulatory constraints.
No third party, including non-European entities, will have access to the data stored or processed there.
The solution has been available in early access since the announcement. General availability is expected by the end of 2026. The offering will then target C5 certifications and the C3A framework, specific to the German market.
The S3NS model replicated at European scale
This German region adopts the technological and operational model of PREMI3NS, the S3NS offering already deployed in France. S3NS achieved the SecNumCloud 3.2 qualification for this offering in late 2025.
The establishment of the two regions, French and German, creates cross-border business continuity capabilities between the two sites, while preserving the sovereignty requirements specific to each country. According to Thales, this is the first time a trusted cloud model aims to obtain several local certifications simultaneously in two distinct European countries.
Thales has been present in Germany since 1880. The group employs 2,300 people across nine sites there, in the fields of defense, security, aerospace, and digital identity.
The official name of the new German entity will be announced in the coming months.
