It is a tense year-end for La Poste’s digital infrastructure. The group announced on Monday that it had fallen victim to a denial-of-service attack that rendered its digital services inaccessible.
This offensive comes during the Christmas week, a pivotal period when the operator handles a massive volume of activity, with around 180 million parcels sorted and delivered over the last two months of the year.
Impacts on Postal and Banking Services
Although the attack renders the web portals unavailable, La Poste specifies that the distribution of parcels and mail remains “assured at this stage,” though disrupted.
On the side of La Banque Postale, access to online banking and the mobile app was interrupted early in the morning. The group seeks to reassure on two critical points:
- Customer data: No impact to report on data integrity or confidentiality.
- Transaction continuity: Card payments at in-store terminals, transfers via the Wero solution, and cash withdrawals at ATMs remain functional. Online payments remain possible thanks to SMS authentication.
BPCE also affected by a malfunction
La Poste is not the only financial player to encounter difficulties this Monday morning. The BPCE group (Banque Populaire and Caisse d’Épargne) also reported a “malfunction” affecting its services.
However, according to a BPCE spokesperson, the situation was brought under control more quickly: “it was temporary, it has been resolved.” While the group’s mobile apps are functioning normally again, the restoration of its websites is proceeding gradually.
For La Poste, the priority remains the full restoration of its digital interfaces in order not to further jeopardize the logistics chain during this period of record volumes.
