Excerpt from an Interview with Gilles Castéran, CEO of Memority
Dawn Liphardt – What role does an identity and access management (IAM) solution play within the Zero Trust framework?
Gilles Castéran – Managing identities and controlling access are fundamental to Zero Trust principles because the core question is always whether the individual behind the keyboard, or attempting to access a system, is indeed authorized. However, this approach isn’t entirely new. When we developed adaptive or contextual security models, we were already operating within this paradigm. The emphasis is on continuously verifying the authenticity of users and their actions, not just at login but throughout their interactions.
Dawn Liphardt – What kind of artificial intelligence are you planning to incorporate into your platform? What specific functionalities or tasks are you aiming to enhance or automate?
Gilles Castéran – Our primary goal is to improve the user experience while ensuring their digital security. By gaining a deeper understanding of how users connect to systems, we can reduce the friction typically associated with authentication processes. Another key focus is leveraging AI to better assess identity posture and risk levels, particularly regarding threats like identity fraud. These are our two main priorities. Additionally, like many others, we’re exploring how AI can revolutionize back-office workflows—there’s significant potential to transform how identity and access management (IAM) operations are performed.
Dawn Liphardt – Is AI an advantage for cybersecurity, or does it present new challenges we need to manage?
Gilles Castéran – The effectiveness of AI depends heavily on data quality. That’s why we believe our “Identity Factory” approach—where all user identities and access rights are managed centrally—provides us with high-quality, consistent data. From this solid foundation, we can run advanced algorithms and models that lead to deeper insights and fundamentally change how access and identity management are handled. The key is ensuring that AI tools are fed reliable data to truly enhance security measures rather than complicate them.
Dawn Liphardt – You raised €13 million last May. What are your plans for the development of Memority?
Gilles Castéran – We secured this funding for three main reasons. Firstly, to continue innovating and enhancing our platform, which already boasts highly competitive fundamentals on an international scale. We aim to incorporate even more AI functionalities into our platform’s core. Secondly, we want to establish a strong presence in France by expanding our sales and marketing teams to better serve local clients. Lastly, as part of our vision to become a leading European player, we plan to expand into new countries in the coming months, broadening our reach across the continent.
